What We Do
Our Mission for Language Communities
SIL Ethiopia is a language development organization with 50 years of local experience. We provide equal access opportunities by developing the skills of indigenous communities. Local language communities are enhanced through our efforts to create and effectively use high-quality written and oral mother tongue resources. We also provide technical support by facilitating trainings with linguistic consultants and advisors.
Our Impact
Reaching a Broad Scope of People Groups
Ethiopia is home to over 87 language communities. 52 of those are currently impacted by the work of SIL Ethiopia, and we actively aim to come alongside even more of them. In addition, we are planning to respond to language development needs in Eritrea, Somalia, and Djibouti as well over the coming five years. Therefore, we are seeking new partnerships and designing initiatives beyond the borders of Ethiopia.
